



White Fringetree
Chionanthus virginicus
White Fringetree is a shrub up to 2-3 m height. The bark is brown-reddish, scaly. Young shoots are light green, becoming dark gray with age. Shiny oblong-ovate leaves growing up to 15 cm. In July fragrant flowers with thin white petals appear on branches. Medium-sized fruits appear in august. They become dark blue in September-October and they are more noticeable against the background of yellowed leaves.
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Prefers moist, fertile soils. Seldom needs pruning. Tolerant of air pollution and adapts well to urban settings. Frost-Hardy.
