Ogon Japanese Black Pine is a fast-growing tree with a wide pyramidal shape. The annual growth is about 20 - 30 cm. In 10 years the height of a plant is 2.0 - 2.5 m and the width is 1.2 - 1.5 m. The needles are stiff, dark green, 7-12 cm long. In spring and summer they are light green. They turn yellow in autumn. Cones are ovoid, brown, 4 - 7 cm long.
Full sun lover or partial shade. The crown of pine will thin out and lose its rich yellow color in the shade. Undemanding to soil. Prefers soils with moderate moisture. Frost-hardy.
