NewSciadopitys Verticillata or Japanese Umbrella-Pine is a evergreen, coniferous tree with a pyramidal crown. Slow growing. In 10 years the height of a plant is 0.8-1.2 m. The needles are flat, 8-12 cm long. They are green, shiny on top and two white stripes on the bottom, arranged like the spokes of an umbrella. Cones are dense, solitary, oblong with rounded scales. The first year they are green, the second year they turn a gray-brown.
The full-grown tree prefers good lighting. Young plants feel better in partial shade. Prefers loose, rich, slightly acidic and moist, but well-drained soil. Frost-hardy.
