Prunus serrulata 'Royal Burgundy'
Prunus serrulata 'Royal Burgundy'
'Royal Burgundy' is a fast-growing sturdy tree, first narrowly erect, then spreading, with reddish-black leaves, deep copper-red when young, turning orange and red in autumn. Clusters of double, pink flowers appear with the leaves or immediately in mid-spring
'Royal Burgundy' creates an eye-catching contrast with glossy, deep burgundy foliage that provides a canvas for pink, brown, double flowers in March-April. 'Royal Burgundy' offers another striking display in autumn, when the dark purple leaves turn bright red before falling. In winter, the copper-colored scaly bark is interesting. Growing to a height and spread of 5m x 3m in 20 years. 'Royal Burgundy' can be grown in most soils except wet soils. As with most flowering cherries, a full sun position is preferred.
