Tulip Tree
Liriodendron tulipifera
NewTulip Tree is a large, fast growing, deciduous tree. The average height of a tree is 25-36 m, and in some specimens, especially in forests, it often exceeds 50 m. The crown is high, pyramidal in young trees. The bark of young trees is smooth, light gray-green. The shape of the leaves is unusual. It is lyre-shaped, consisting of four lobes. They are alternate, simple, light green or green. The flowering period occurs in late May - mid-June. The flowers are pale green or yellow with petals and an orange crown, reminiscent of tulips.
Liriodendron prefers deep, well-drained clay soil with a thick black earth surface layer. Tolerant of sandy soils. Susceptible to dry, hot areas and salty soils.
