Kilmarnock Goat Willow
Salix caprea 'Kilmarnock'
Kilmarnock Goat Willow is a deciduous, ornamental tree with a small weeping or umbrella-shaped crown. Shoots are dark red-brown, hanging down to the ground. The bark is grey-green. It turns gray with age. The leaves are slightly wrinkled, oblong-elliptical, dull green. They are yellow in autumn. In March-April the bare branches are covered by soft, fluffy, gray lumps, before the leaves arise. They have a delicate aroma.
It is an undemanding plant, but requires moist soil and a sunny position for the best growth. Prefers fresh, moderately moist, sandy-clay soils, slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. Wind resistant.
