Fragrant Fountain Japanese Snowbell
Styrax japonicus 'Fragrant fountain'
NewA small deciduous tree to around 3 m high, with a weeping habit and oval, slightly toothed, dark green leaves. In fall the green leaves turn golden yellow. In early summer the branches are covered in a multitude of hanging white bell-shaped flowers that are intensely fragrant. These are followed by small olive-like fruits.
This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth. It is very fussy about its soil conditions and must have rich, acidic soils to ensure success, and is subject to chlorosis (yellowing) of the foliage in alkaline soils.
