Kiku Shidare Japanese Cherry

It is a small, deciduous tree. In 20 years it grows about 3-5 m. Annual growth is about 20-30 cm. It is fast growing. The trunk is gray with smooth bark. The full-grown plant is fissured, dark gray. The leaves are shiny, bronze, later green. In autumn they turn orange-yellow. Petals are narrow, double, fragrant, dark pink. Blooms in May, 1-2 weeks. Japanese Cherry rarely bears fruit. It has small black berries. They are edible.
Full sun lover, tolerates partial shade. It blooms better in good light. Undemanding to soils. Prefers nutrient-rich, fresh, moderately moist, sandy loam, slightly acidic to alkaline soils. Drought resistant.
