Glossy Abelia
Abelia × grandiflora, Linnaea × grandiflora
Glossy Abelia is a branched deciduous shrub. A height of plant is from 1.5 to 2 meters, but some specimens under favorable conditions can reach 6 meters. The leaflets are very elegant, small, oblong, pointed at the top thatarranged oppositely on the shoots. Their color is dark green, shiny. Inflorescences are white, large, have five petals. The flowers have a strong and pleasant smell, which are gathered at the ends in a panicle.
The flowering period of Abelia is very long. It begins in June and ends in September - October. After the small flowers densely located at the ends of the branches fall off, purple sepals remain in their places, thus the plant preserves its ornamental form until late autumn.
It is a full sun lover, but most preferably indirect sunlight. Moderate watering is required, which does not depend on the time of year. Abelia needs to be protected from drafts. It prefers nutritious soil consisting of ground, humus, peat and sand. Frost-hardy.
